The AF-Assist Illuminator

The Z9‘s AF-assist illuminator has a range of about 1.0–3.0 m (3 ft 4 in.–9 ft 10 in.); when using the illuminator, use a lens with a focal length of 16–300 mm. Some lenses may block the illuminator at certain focus distances. Restrictions applying to lenses used in combination with the Z9‘s AF-assist illuminator are listed below.

Remove lens hoods when using the illuminator.

NIKKOR Z 17-28mm f/2.8

Autofocus photography with AF-assist illumination is not available at focus distances under 0.5 m (1 ft 8 in.).

NIKKOR Z DX 18-140mm f/3.5-6.3 VR

Autofocus photography with AF-assist illumination is not available at some focal lengths and focus distances. Autofocus photography with AF-assist illumination is available at the following focal lengths and focus distances only:
