AF area mode

Set how the camera selects the focus area for autofocus.

Option	Description
Face priority	When the camera detects a human face, it focuses on that face (Using face detection). When framing a composition with no human subjects or detected faces, the camera automatically selects one or more of the nine focus areas containing the subject closest to the camera when the shutter-release button is pressed halfway.
Manual (spot) Manual (normal) Manual (wide)	Use the multi selector or rotate it to move the focus area () to where you want to focus. You can move it within the range of the movable area guide (). When at the center When moving To use the multi selector to configure the flash mode or other settings, press the button. To return to moving the focus area, press the button again.
Subject tracking	Use this function to take pictures of moving subjects. Register the subject on which the camera focuses. The focus area automatically moves to track the subject (Using subject tracking).
Target finding AF (default setting)	When the camera detects the main subject, it focuses on the subject (Using target finding AF).

Using subject tracking

1. Register a subject.
   • Align the subject that you want to track with the border in the center of the frame and press the button.
     
   • When the subject is registered, a yellow border (focus area) is displayed around it and the camera begins tracking the subject.
     
   • If the subject cannot be registered, the border is displayed in red. Change the composition and try registering the subject again.
   • To cancel subject registration, press the button.
   • If the camera can no longer track the registered subject, the focus area disappears. Register the subject again.
2. Press the shutter-release button all the way to take the picture.
   
   • If the shutter-release button is pressed while the focus area is not displayed, the camera focuses on the subject in the center of the frame.
