Wireless connections

Use the SnapBridge app for wireless connections between the camera and your smart device via Bluetooth (Connecting via Bluetooth (pairing)). Depending on the SnapBridge app function, you may need to switch the connection method from Bluetooth to Wi-Fi (Switching to Wi-Fi connection) after connecting.

Connecting via Bluetooth (pairing)

Before connecting via Bluetooth for the first time, you will need to pair the camera and smart device.

Before pairing

  • Enable Bluetooth on the smart device. For details, see the documentation provided with the device.
  • Ensure that the batteries in the camera and smart device are fully charged to prevent the devices turning off unexpectedly.
  • Check that there is space available on the camera memory card.

Pairing

Pair the camera and smart device as described below.

  • Some operations are performed using the camera, others on the smart device.
  • Additional instructions are available via SnapBridge online help.
  1. Camera: Press the button.
  2. Camera: Press the multi selector , use to select (network menu), and press the button.
  3. Camera: Select [Connect to smart device], and press the button.

    The camera name will be displayed in the screen.
  4. Smart device: Launch the SnapBridge app, open the tab and tap [Connect to camera].
    When launching the SnapBridge app for the first time after downloading, tap [Connect to camera] on the app’s introduction screen.
  5. Smart device: Follow the on-screen instructions.
    • When prompted, tap the category for your camera and then tap the “pairing” option when prompted to choose the connection type.
    • Tap the camera name when prompted.
  6. Camera/smart device: After confirming that the camera and smart device display the same authentication code, follow the on-screen instructions on both devices to complete pairing.
    • Tap the pairing button on the smart device and press the button on the camera.
    • The camera and smart device will each display a message when pairing is complete.

The camera and smart device are now paired.

If the camera and smart device cannot be paired

Confirm that the settings in the camera [Network menu] are configured as follows.

  • [Airplane mode]: [Off]
  • [Choose connection]: [Smart device]
  • [Bluetooth] [Connection]: [Enable]

Pairing error

If you wait too long between pressing the button on the camera and tapping the button on the smart device in Step 6, the device will display an error message and pairing will fail.

  • If you are using an Android device, tap [OK] and return to Step 1.
  • If you are using an iOS device, dismiss the SnapBridge app and check that it is not running in the background, then request iOS to “forget” the camera before returning to Step 1. The request to “forget” the camera is made via the iOS “Settings” app.

Disabling Bluetooth

To disable Bluetooth, select the network menu [Bluetooth] [Connection] [Disable] in the camera.

Connecting to a previously-paired smart device

Once the smart device has been paired with the camera, you will be able to connect simply by enabling Bluetooth on both the smart device and camera and launching the SnapBridge app.

Switching to Wi-Fi connection

After connecting via Bluetooth, you may need to switch to Wi-Fi connection to use the download function or remote photography function of the SnapBridge app.

Before connecting via Wi-Fi

  • Enable Wi-Fi on the smart device. For details, see the documentation provided with the device.
  • Ensure that the batteries in the camera and smart device are fully charged to prevent the devices turning off unexpectedly.
  • Check that there is space available on the camera memory card.

Switching connection methods

Follow the steps below to establish a Wi-Fi connection between the camera and smart device using the SnapBridge app.

  • Additional instructions are available via SnapBridge online help.
  1. Smart device: While connected via Bluetooth, select the SnapBridge app image download function or remote photography function.
    The Wi-Fi connection confirmation dialog will be displayed.
  2. Smart device: Tap [OK] in the dialog.
  3. Smart device: Operate the smart device following the instructions on the app screen to switch to Wi-Fi.
    • On iOS devices, the “Settings” app will launch. Tap [Settings] to open [Settings], then scroll up and tap [Wi-Fi] (which you’ll find near the top of the settings list) to display Wi-Fi settings.
    • On the Wi-Fi connection screen, select the camera SSID and enter the password. You can confirm or change the camera SSID or password in network menu [Wi-Fi] [Network settings].
  4. Smart device: After adjusting device settings as described in Step 3, return to the SnapBridge app as necessary.
    • After establishing a Wi-Fi connection to the camera, the smart device will display an image download function or remote photography function screen.

The camera and smart device have switched to Wi-Fi connection.
